About Us

We’re a sports bar specialising in locally brewed craft beers both in bottles and on draught. We have two hand pumps for our real ale and cider plus several beers dispensed via ‘key-keg’. We also have a choice of high-quality lagers and ‘fizzy’ ciders, a selection of wines and soft drinks.

Our name is a nod to the designer John Henry Dearle, who has been described as the ‘Morris Apprentice’. In 1905 he became the Artistic Director for Morris & Co whose works stood on what is now Sainsbury’s, Colliers Wood. The Morris works and the Arthur Liberty works, where our bar is located, were at the forefront of production in the Arts and Crafts movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.

Visit Us

We are located in the historic Apprentice Shop, which is part of the Merton Abbey Mills site, a beautiful riverside location a short walk from Colliers Wood tube station.

There is a pay and display car park on site (with two hours free parking) and there is free parking for up to four hours at Sainsbury’s, just a three-minute walk away.

If you enjoy walking, Merton Abbey Mills is on the route of the Wandle Trail. The Apprentice is an ideal spot to stop for a drink and a breather.

We’re family and dog friendly and can also show Sky Sports among other channels. If there’s a match you want to watch and our screens are off, feel free to ask if we can show it for you.
